June is here and I am working in my studio and posting on my store as new vases come out of the kiln.
With the experimenting of glazes and a series of glaze firings the results have been a blue/green that has a very beautiful earth tone. Blue that is created from cobalt oxide is definitely a color that works with my vases. I have taken a break from working on cups. I do make my own glazes from a collection of formulas that I have held onto since the 1970s. I am fortunate to be able to say they have not changed too much as the ingredients of glaze materials have been substituted to keep the level of toxicity level down in my studio. I use a Clear Glossy glaze for the inside of functional ware. This is called a liner glaze that has the ability to be used with food . My functional ware glazes are tested at a laboratory called Branywine Science Labs.
My organic forms are a continuing of shapes and slices of porcelain clay that gives the suggestion of movement within an organic form.
The circular acrylic painting is an overlay of an organic shape … then with the overlaying of paint , pencil, micron pen and acrylic paint pen. These paintings are about shapes contained within a shape . This painting is a series of three. I have started working with Windsor Newton water mixable oil paint also. The only part that is water is the cleaning of brushes. Although it is tempting to use water when mixing the paint. The protea flower and magnolia flower paintings are with Windsor Newton old. They do take a little bit longer to dry when using a medium .
